Freedom
Happy Fourth of July!
As I think about the Fourth of July, the first thing that comes to mind is freedom. Years ago, I worked with a nun who would teach the same class every year for the Fourth of July. Her theme would be, “Freedom is not free.” We would do a craft and talk with the campers about how nothing is completely free.
Freedom is not free. In the world of Special Education, we are told that children are entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
I take a stand for this freedom for our children. What is considered an appropriate education? A child should be making appropriate progress in light of their situation. This means that they need to make more than de minimus in terms of progress.
Our children have the right to be taught in a way that allows them to make progress.
I’m hear to help you fight for this right for you children.
