When should I receive my child’s IEP?

News Article - Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education provided school district with guidance regarding the provision of parents with an IEP. The link to the guidance is provided above.

When you attend your child’s IEP meeting, the district must provide you with a summary AND you must agree to wait fourteen calendar days. If you do not agree, then the district must provide you with the IEP within 3-5 days.

A good practice is to let your child’s team know at the end of the meeting that you are not agreeing to wait and request the IEP immediately. After the meeting, I recommend following up with an email to your team chair stating in writing that you are not agreeing to wait and request that you be provided with the IEP within 3-5 days.
